I used to play Age of Conan, but I stopped. Not because of the broken gameplay or lack of content, but rather from boredom. Disregarding the fact that I never seem to be able to catch on all of these trendy online role-playing games out there, some part of me wants to anyway. Weird!
I need a relaxed game where I can just sit back and enjoy an XP feast with my fellow friends, along with too much time and a couple of beers. And now that Funcom is luring old players back with their re-activation campaign it was too good to pass on. Why not, it’s not like I have anything to lose.
But the road to get the game up and running again would prove to be anything but easy and enjoyable.
I didn’t have my old copy around, so I had to buy myself a new one, and since I’m in Japan, the only version they seem to be selling here is the American one, which I didn’t know. Previously I’ve been using the European one, and this was the cause of all the problems which lied in front of me.
To be honest, it wasn’t that big of a deal, but it almost made me stop trying to get back to Hyboria again.
After installing the game and going through all the necessary updates, it was time to start. But now the client refused to accept my password. No matter how many times I tried or how long I waited after the re-activation, it didn’t work. I changed my password a couple of times and restarted everything. But no. Nothing.
I was on the verge of breaking down completely, and I had composed a not so friendly hate-and-help mail to the support when I came across a tip saying that the client itself was wrong. Apparently I can’t log in with an American client if I once used an European one. With a little fixing in the localeconfig.xml file I was finally good to go. I blame no one but myself for this. Sometimes in enraged mode it’s hard to see what’s right in front of you. So, anyway…
Enter Meatmachine!

What will happen from here, I do not know. Once again I’ve joined Funcom’s slaughter feast, so no matter if I stay or not, a couple of hundreds picts will lose their lives. Brutally!
