Craig Morrison answers Eurogamer

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Gaming site Eurogamer had a chat with Funcom’s not-so-very-new-anymore director, Craig Morrison. Some interesting parts about PVP and end game related stuff. And what’s his take on getting old players who left the game earlier on back? Check it out.

Game Update to Address Stun

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Being stunned by a ganking high level Ranger is a drag on PvP servers, so this is good news:

Firstly the way how crowd control and immunities work has been adjusted. This change now will cause players to break stuns, fears, roots, snares and charms when they have lost a certain amount of health. This should give players a fair chance to withstand these spells and fight back.

There will also be a change in combos, making them shorter and hence easier to execute, but they’ll also be less powerful.

The next game update is due in a couple of week’s time, and these new additions should already be on the Testlive server.

Eurogamer Revisits Age of Conan, Marks it Down

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Eurogamer MMO revisits Age of Conan in a re-review of the game, which initially scored an 8/10, and unfortunately they are marking it down. Unfortunately for Funcom and the game, of course, since the criticism is valid, although the actual game is better today than it was at launch, and still very entertaining.

Age of Conan remains one of the most innovative and interesting additions to the MMORPG family in recent years - but for now, it’s a tough game to recommend. In absolute terms, the game you’d play now is a better game than the one we played at launch - but an MMORPG is as much a service as a game, and Funcom’s service has fallen down badly when it was needed most.

The new grade is 6/10. I must say, Age of Conan is entirely in the hands of Funcom at this point. If they live up to the new director’s promises, then I believe it’ll be a strong title and a player in the MMO field for quite some time. If not, well, it could end badly, people…

Previews of Cultural Armor

Monday, October 13th, 2008

It is always nice when developers add more flair to the NPCs, so the preview on upcoming cultural armor, due “very soon” (if that is to believed), is nice.

Servers are merging

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

New game director Craig Morrison has now, in an open letter on the official Age of Conan forum, confirmed what we all were waiting for. Servers in both US and Europe are merging.

I can today confirm that we are actively working on an approach to merge servers, both in Europe and North America. It’s important for us to ensure the best gameplay experience for you all, and more healthy populations on each and every server will make sure we maintain healthy communities for the game in the future.

We’ll see about that, but right now it sure is kind of empty out there. Except for those russian thugs, always in pursuit of my blood. Gnarl!
